Lauren Price Announces Comeback Fight
In an exciting announcement, Lauren Price, the unified world welterweight champion from Wales, revealed her return to the ring, set for April 4, 2025, at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff. This will mark her first bout since she claimed the WBC and IBF titles alongside her WBA belt with a decisive victory over Natasha Jonas last March in London.
Price’s Enthusiasm for the Comeback
Price, 31, expressed her enthusiasm for this comeback, having been sidelined due to the complexities of boxing politics rather than any personal issues.
“After being out of action for what feels like too long, I’m thrilled to be back in Cardiff,” Price said during an event at Rodney Parade in Newport. “It’s a significant fight for me, and I’ve been eagerly training to ensure I put on a great performance for my supporters.”
Future Plans and Commitment to Welsh Boxing
Previously, there were hopes that Price would compete again by August 2024, but it seems the gap will stretch to around 13 months since her last match was in March. While she was in Las Vegas recently to witness Mikaela Mayer defend her WBO title against Sandy Ryan, her focus is now firmly on her own fight in Cardiff.
Price’s decision to skip a potential match at London’s Royal Albert Hall underscores her commitment to representing Welsh boxing. She stated,
“I was offered the chance to fight at the Albert Hall again, which is a prestigious venue, but it’s important for me to box in Wales and support emerging Welsh talent on the card. My goal is to fill stadiums like Joe Calzaghe did, starting with this homecoming.”
Event Details and Future Prospects
Though the British Boxing Board of Control has not yet officially confirmed the event details for April 4, they did mention another match in Cardiff on the same day featuring Welsh fighter Rhys Edwards. The event will be organized by Ben Shalom’s Boxxer promotion, which has a deal to broadcast fights on BBC television. Price, who is still undefeated in her professional career, believes that her Welsh heritage greatly contributes to her success and motivation in the sport.
