Lauren Price Set to Defend Titles in Wales
On April 4, Olympic gold medalist Lauren Price is set to return to her homeland of Wales, where she will defend her world welterweight titles against an undefeated contender from Puerto Rico, Stephanie Pineiro Aquino. At the age of 31, Price has an impeccable record of 9 wins, with no losses, and currently holds the WBA, WBC, and IBF titles. This bout will mark her first fight since defeating Natasha Jonas by unanimous decision in March of the previous year.
Price’s Commitment to Her Fans
Price expressed her excitement about the upcoming fight, emphasizing the importance of defending her titles in front of her home crowd:
“Defending my world titles at home in Wales means everything to me. I want to repay the support everyone has shown me with another great performance. I never turn down a challenge. Stephanie Pineiro Aquino is a dangerous fighter, but nothing is going to stop me from getting my hand raised on April 4 in Cardiff.”
The British athlete made history as Wales’ first female world champion after defeating Jessica McCaskill at the Utilita Arena in Cardiff in 2024, and she is now looking to solidify her legacy further.
Pineiro Aquino’s Challenge
Pineiro Aquino, who brings a perfect record of 10 wins to the ring, holds the mandatory challenger position and poses a significant obstacle in Price’s path toward a potential undisputed title match against WBO champion Mikaela Mayer. The 35-year-old Pineiro Aquino is determined to take the titles back to her homeland, stating:
“Lauren may have the home fans on her side, but I have a country behind me too. I am coming to take those belts back to Puerto Rico.”
