Late 3-pointer from Andrew Wiggins lifts Miami Heat past Oklahoma City Thunder, 122-120

Miami Heat Triumph Over Oklahoma City Thunder

In a thrilling encounter on Saturday night, the Miami Heat triumphed over the reigning NBA champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder, with a narrow 122-120 victory. Andrew Wiggins delivered a decisive 3-pointer with just 31 seconds remaining, securing Miami’s lead for the win.

Standout Performances

Bam Adebayo showcased his talent with a standout performance, scoring 30 points and making a personal-best six shots from beyond the arc. Contributing to Miami’s success, Norman Powell added 19 points, while Pelle Larsson chipped in with 16. The Heat also received significant production from their bench, with Simone Fontecchio and Myron Gardner collectively scoring 24 points.

Thunder’s Efforts

In a remarkable display, the Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander erupted for 39 points, but it wasn’t enough to clinch a win as Oklahoma City dropped to a 35-8 record this season. Both Aaron Wiggins and Ajay Mitchell contributed 18 and 15 points respectively for the Thunder, while Chet Holmgren added 14.

Injury Concerns

However, the game took a concerning turn for OKC when Jalen Williams experienced right thigh soreness and had to exit the game in the second quarter; he grabbed at his right hamstring as he left the court and will undergo evaluation on Sunday, as confirmed by Thunder coach Mark Daigneault.

Game Highlights

“After Wiggins’ pivotal 3-pointer, Oklahoma City had a chance to level the score but fell short.”

Holmgren missed a lob from Alex Caruso, allowing Miami to regain possession. The Thunder managed a defensive stop on Miami’s subsequent possession and called a timeout with only 3 seconds left on the clock. The inbounds play saw Caruso send the ball back to Gilgeous-Alexander, who attempted a 3-pointer that ultimately missed as the time expired.

Despite scoring over 120 points for the first time this season and going 24-0 in such cases previously, the Thunder faced their first loss in this category.

Offensive Output

In terms of offensive output, Miami significantly outshot Oklahoma City, taking 111 attempts compared to the Thunder’s 77, all while missing key players such as Tyler Herro due to a sore big toe and bruised rib, as well as Jaime Jaquez Jr. owing to a sprained left knee.

Meanwhile, Gilgeous-Alexander continued to make waves, reaching 20 points for the 113th consecutive game, putting him just 13 games shy of matching Wilt Chamberlain’s record for this notable achievement.
