Kylian Mbappe’s Reflections on Paris Saint-Germain
Kylian Mbappe expressed he holds no resentment or regrets regarding Paris Saint-Germain’s achievement in the Champions League, particularly after his departure to Real Madrid less than a year ago. Throughout his seven-year tenure at PSG, the talented forward secured six Ligue 1 championships. However, he never claimed the coveted Champions League title. Since joining Real Madrid in June 2024, the forward faced disappointment as his new team, the reigning champions, succumbed to Arsenal in the quarter-finals with a 5-1 aggregate loss.
Champions League Triumph for PSG
On the other hand, PSG recently celebrated their historic Champions League triumph, overpowering Inter Milan with a stunning 5-0 victory in the final held in Munich. Reflecting on these events during a press conference ahead of France’s Nations League match against Germany, Mbappe stated:
“I didn’t leave too soon. My story with PSG was over. There’s no bitterness, no regrets. It’s destiny. It had to happen without me.”
Mbappe’s Journey with PSG
Mbappe remembers his journey with PSG, having fought hard in previous Champions League campaigns, including a narrow loss to Bayern Munich in the 2020 final and a semi-final defeat by Manchester City the following year. He also noted the adversity faced by PSG in their chase for the title, saying:
“I’ve been through so many problems there, and now they deserve the success. They’ve become the best team in Europe, and it’s 100 percent deserved; they’re becoming the team everyone wants to beat.”
Challenges at Real Madrid and Future Aspirations
Despite his successful run with PSG, Mbappe’s first year with Real Madrid concluded without any trophies, as they ended up losing to rivals Barcelona in both La Liga and the Copa del Rey. Acknowledging the current spotlight on him due to PSG’s success, Mbappe remarked that he enjoys being in high-pressure situations and reaffirmed his commitment to improve:
“It’s up to me to work. I’ve succeeded in changing many trends in my career and have overcome various challenges.”
Looking Ahead to the Nations League
As France prepares to take on Germany in the Nations League third-place match, Mbappe seeks to move past a recent semi-final heartbreak where he scored a penalty in a thrilling 5-4 defeat to Spain on Thursday.
