Kylian Mbappé in Hospital Due to Gastroenteritis, Missing Club World Cup Action with Real Madrid

Mbappé Hospitalized

Kylian Mbappé, the star attacker for Real Madrid, is currently hospitalized due to acute gastroenteritis, the club confirmed on Thursday. The news comes after he was notably absent in Madrid’s 1-1 draw against Al Hilal during the opening match of the Club World Cup at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami the previous day.

Club’s Statement and Medical Condition

The club’s statement disclosed that Mbappé is undergoing treatment and various medical tests to address his condition. He has not participated in training sessions leading up to the match, following complaints of a fever that kept him from engaging with his team in an open training session in Palm Beach Gardens on Tuesday.

Previous Season Performance

In the previous season, Mbappé was an impactful player for Madrid, netting 43 goals across all competitions; however, the team was unable to secure any major trophies during his inaugural year with the club. This season, with new head coach Xabi Alonso, Mbappé had just begun training again after his involvement with the French national team in the UEFA Nations League.

Match Highlights Against Al Hilal

The match against Al Hilal saw teenager Gonzalo García step in as center forward and score the first goal, but the game concluded in a stalemate thanks to Rúben Neves equalizing for the Saudi club. Real Madrid had a chance to clinch the match late when Federico Valverde had a penalty kick saved by goalkeeper Yassine Bono.

Club’s Aspirations

Real Madrid’s aim in the Club World Cup is to secure their first trophy under Alonso’s management. The team is currently residing at the Four Seasons in Florida during the tournament and practicing at a nearby training facility.
