Kristaps Porzingis set to miss game against Lakers as Hawks face injury struggles

Hawks Face Challenges Ahead of Lakers Matchup

The Atlanta Hawks are set to be without Kristaps Porzingis for their upcoming contest against the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday. This decision comes as Porzingis is sidelined for the second consecutive game in a back-to-back series due to illness management. Earlier this season, he also faced a significant setback, missing two games because of flu-like symptoms.

Concerns Over Porzingis’ Health

Last year’s postseason saw Porzingis struggling with his health, resulting in a disappointing average of just 7.7 points and 4.6 rebounds across 11 playoff appearances, where he played only about 21 minutes per game. Despite stating in training camp that he has recovered from previous health issues, his current absence raises concerns for the team.

Additional Injuries Impacting the Team

Compounding the Hawks’ troubles is the significant absence of star point guard Trae Young, who is expected to be out for at least four weeks due to a right knee MCL sprain. Additionally, backup guard Luke Kennard is set to miss his second straight game, also due to illness, while Nikola Durisic will not play owing to a right elbow sprain.

The availability of Jalen Johnson, a rising forward, and guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker remains uncertain as both are marked as questionable due to injuries sustained during Friday’s game against the Toronto Raptors, where the Hawks unfortunately suffered a loss. This combination of injuries leaves Atlanta’s lineup in a precarious position as they head into their matchup with the Lakers.
