New York Knicks Coaching Search
In a move to fill their head coaching vacancy, the New York Knicks are set to interview Micah Nori, currently an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves, according to reports from ESPN. This marks the third formal interview conducted by the Knicks, who have previously met with veteran coaches Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins.
Micah Nori’s Coaching Background
Nori, 51, joined the Timberwolves coaching staff in 2021 and has been working alongside head coach Chris Finch. Despite New York’s interest in Finch, the Timberwolves have opted not to allow the Knicks to interview him for the position.
Prior to his time in Minnesota, Nori accrued significant experience as an assistant coach with several NBA teams, including the Detroit Pistons, Denver Nuggets, Sacramento Kings, and Toronto Raptors.
Other Candidates and Coaching Changes
Mike Brown, once the head coach of the Kings, had previously interviewed for the Knicks’ head coaching position in 2020, making a notable impression before New York ultimately decided to hire Tom Thibodeau. Meanwhile, Taylor Jenkins, who was dismissed from his role as head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies in March, led the team from the 2019-20 season onward. Under Jenkins, the Grizzlies made three playoff runs and achieved a notable series victory, with the team also seeing Ja Morant win Rookie of the Year honors during that timeframe.
Thibodeau’s Departure and Its Implications
The Knicks’ coaching search comes on the heels of their unexpected decision to let go of Thibodeau, who brought the team to the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in a quarter-century. As they navigate this process, multiple organizations have reportedly turned down requests from the Knicks for interviews, complicating their efforts to find a new leader for the team.
