Kings’ DeMar DeRozan shines with 41 points in win over Jazz, 116-111

Sacramento Kings vs. Utah Jazz: Game Recap

On Sunday night, the Sacramento Kings narrowly defeated the Utah Jazz with a final score of 116-111, thanks in large part to an outstanding performance from DeMar DeRozan. The star guard notched his season-best with 41 points and dished out 11 assists, marking his return to form after recently surpassing Tim Duncan to claim the 18th spot on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.

DeRozan’s Stellar Performance

DeRozan showcased his scoring prowess by hitting 11 of his 21 shots, achieving the 40-point milestone for the first time since early February 2025. This achievement marks his 417th game with at least 20 points while maintaining a shooting percentage of 50% or better.

Alongside DeRozan, Precious Achiuwa contributed significantly to the Kings’ success with a double-double, scoring 20 points and securing 11 rebounds. New addition Killian Hayes, who signed a contract extension earlier that day, added 16 points and eight assists in the victory. Both Nique Clifford and Daeqwon Plowden chipped in with 10 points each as the Kings, now boasting an 18-51 record, have won four out of their last five games.

Jazz’s Efforts

For the Jazz, Cody Williams led the scoring with 34 points, while Brice Sensabaugh and Isaiah Collier added 22 and 21 points respectively. Despite their valiant efforts, Utah fell to 20-48 overall in this season’s standings.

Game Highlights

The game was tight, with Sacramento pulling ahead 110-99 after a 3-pointer from Plowden with just under five minutes left. However, the Jazz made a valiant attempt at a comeback, narrowing the deficit to 110-107 shortly thereafter, aided by consecutive three-pointers from Sensabaugh and Maurice Harkless. In the closing minutes, DeRozan solidified the Kings’ lead by sinking three free throws, including a crucial shot with only 14.9 seconds to go.

Both teams, struggling this season, entered the game with a dismal combined record of 37-98 and were shorthanded; Utah dressed just nine players, while Sacramento had eight available. Williams, the Jazz’s 10th overall pick in the 2024 draft, set the tone early with 14 points in the first quarter, but ultimately, it was DeRozan’s steady output that propelled the Kings to victory.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, the Jazz will go on to face the Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday, while the Kings are set to host the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
