Kevin Porter Jr. Faces Suspension
On March 24, 2025, NBA guard Kevin Porter Jr., currently with the Milwaukee Bucks, faced the Phoenix Suns at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona. The league’s investigation into his domestic violence allegations from 2023 has concluded, resulting in a four-game suspension. Notably, this suspension has already been effectively served by Porter Jr., who has been absent from the NBA for over a year following the incident, according to reports from Law Murray of The Athletic.
Background of the Incident
The inquiry stemmed from an incident in September 2023, when Porter Jr., then playing for the Houston Rockets, was arrested in Manhattan on charges of second-degree assault and strangulation. The charges arose from an altercation at a hotel near Times Square, involving an individual he had been in a relationship with. Following this episode, the victim required hospitalization.
Ultimately, Porter Jr. accepted a plea bargain in which he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and harassment, and he underwent a domestic violence intervention program.
Career Developments
At the time of his arrest, Porter was under contract with the Rockets but was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder prior to the new season commencing. However, the Thunder released him shortly after acquiring him. Subsequently, he spent the season playing in Greece, prompting the NBA to pause its investigation, as he was not technically part of the league during this period.
Last season, upon signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, the league’s investigation was reactivated. Following a trade deadline deal, Porter Jr. then moved to the Milwaukee Bucks, securing a two-year contract worth $10.5 million, which includes a player option for the second year.
Return to the NBA
As he prepares to join the Bucks for the upcoming training camp this September, the league and the National Basketball Players Association have agreed that his suspension has been served, allowing him to fully re-enter the league without further penalties.
