Kevin Durant’s Optimism with the Rockets
In the heart of Houston, Kevin Durant expressed optimism about securing a contract extension with the Rockets as he completed his move to the team. The star forward spoke candidly about his respect for head coach Ime Udoka, indicating this relationship significantly influenced his decision to facilitate a trade that brought him from the Suns to the Rockets.

Currently, Durant is in the final year of his lucrative $55 million contract and is open to negotiating a new deal, which many believe might have been integrated into his trade to Houston.

“I do see myself signing a contract extension. I can’t tell you exactly when that will happen, but I do see it happening.”

If finalized, Durant could sign a two-year extension valued at over $120 million, contingent on the maximum salary. The Rockets are also navigating their financial commitments, having recently secured Jabari Smith Jr. with a substantial five-year, $122 million deal while also engaging with Tari Eason about potential extensions. He also remarked on how his physical style aligns well with the Rockets, a team renowned for its accumulation of tall, athletic players. With the 6-foot-11 Durant joining the roster, expectations are high for Houston to deploy some of the tallest lineups in the league. Following the unfortunate loss of starting point guard Fred Van Vleet to a torn ACL, both Durant and Udoka confirmed that he would need to shoulder additional ball-handling responsibilities this season.
