Thurman’s Focus Ahead of Fundora Clash
In preparation for his upcoming clash against Sebastian Fundora, Keith Thurman has made a conscious decision to isolate himself from all distractions. The former unified welterweight champion spoke to World Boxing News about his unwavering focus as he gears up for the WBC super welterweight title fight set for Saturday night in Las Vegas.
Intense Training and Dedication
Thurman, who firmly believes in his ability to defeat Fundora, has studied the champion’s previous bouts where he appeared vulnerable. As the March 28 showdown nears, Thurman has intensified his training regimen, stating,
“I’m in camp. I am locked in.”
He emphasized that he is fully dedicated to his training, disregarding everything else happening in the boxing world.
“Whatever others are achieving, I commend them, but my focus is solely on my preparation,”
he remarked.
Aspirations of Championship Glory
The fighter’s aspiration is clear, as he visualizes himself becoming the WBC super welterweight champion once again.
“I keep picturing the moment they announce me as the new champion,”
Thurman expressed, eagerly imagining the coveted title’s announcement,
“and the new WBC super welterweight champion of the world is, Keith One Time Thurman!”
He emphasized that if victorious, his priorities would quickly turn to his family, who will not be accompanying him in Las Vegas, saying he looks forward to quality time with them after the fight.
Future Opportunities in Boxing
Thurman also hinted at potential future opportunities in boxing that could arise after facing Fundora. Among these is the prospect of a super fight with rising star Xander Zayas, noting the exciting possibilities that could follow March 28th.
Staying Focused Amid Distractions
Despite Zayas’ recent high-profile appearance during the Super Bowl halftime show, Thurman remained unfazed, admitting he was not engaged by the event.
“I was not tuned into the Super Bowl. It didn’t align with my training and diet, so it was best for me to focus on my family instead,”
he stated.
Looking Ahead
If all goes according to plan and Thurman captures the WBC title from Fundora, his perspective may shift significantly by late 2026.
