Katie Taylor Praises Tiah-Mai Ayton’s Potential
Katie Taylor has expressed her belief that Tiah-Mai Ayton has the potential to become the most accomplished female boxer in history following the 19-year-old’s impressive stoppage victory last Saturday. Hailing from Bristol, Ayton made her pro debut just over a year ago in June, and recently triumphed over Lydie Bialic in her second fight in Sunderland.
Impressive Performance and Future Prospects
Taylor, a dual-weight champion and a dominant figure in women’s boxing, was highly complimentary of Ayton’s performance.
“We haven’t seen talent this exceptional for a long time,”
Taylor remarked to DAZN. She labeled Ayton as the current best female boxer, highlighting that she represents the future of the sport.
“It’s amazing to think she has just turned 19. She’s like an experienced veteran in the ring, and I found myself learning from her fight,”
Taylor added, further emphasizing the young fighter’s remarkable skills.
Ayton’s Fight Highlights
In the bout against Bialic, Ayton showcased her prowess by knocking the French boxer down in the third round and causing a nosebleed in the fourth. After a series of powerful right hands, Bialic was sent to the canvas again, leading to the referee’s decision to stop the contest.
Noteworthy Undercard Performances
Ayton’s performance was part of a noteworthy undercard which also featured other young talents. Among them were 18-year-old bantamweight sensation Adam Maca, who secured a win by dropping Francisco Rodriguez in the fourth round, prompting Rodriguez’s corner to concede defeat. Another standout was heavyweight Leo Atang, also 18, who decisively ended his fight against Cristian Uwaka in just one round.
Ryan’s Comeback
Additionally, Sandy Ryan broke her losing streak with a victory over Jade Grierson by unanimous decision. After losing her welterweight title to Mikaela Mayer and the subsequent rematch, Ryan’s win marked an important step in her comeback.
A New Era in Women’s Boxing
As the world of women’s boxing continues to evolve, figures like Ayton are emerging, potentially paving the way for a new era in the sport with promise and talent rarely seen in young athletes.
