Julian Strawther’s 20 Points Propel Short-Handed Nuggets to Narrow Win Over Struggling Bucks

Denver Nuggets Edge Out Milwaukee Bucks

In a tightly contested game on Friday night, the Denver Nuggets managed to edge out the struggling Milwaukee Bucks with a narrow 102-100 victory at Fiserv Forum. Julian Strawther was a standout player for Denver, leading the way with a personal season-best of 20 points.

Game Highlights

The Nuggets built a commanding 23-point advantage during the game, reaching a high point at 86-63. However, the Bucks mounted a significant comeback, narrowing the gap as Ryan Rollins hit a crucial three-pointer that brought the score to 99-97 with just under 30 seconds left. Denver responded as Tim Hardaway Jr. stepped up to the free-throw line, successfully converting both attempts to extend their lead to 101-97.

Still not deterred, Milwaukee fought back with Rollins nailing another three-pointer, making it a one-point game at 101-100 with only 5.4 seconds on the clock. In a dramatic turn, Jalen Pickett was fouled, hitting one free throw but missing the second attempt, giving Milwaukee one last chance. Kyle Kuzma, after securing the rebound, launched a half-court shot that hit the front rim, sealing the game for Denver.

Player Performances

Rollins was instrumental for Milwaukee, scoring 15 of his total 21 points in the fourth quarter amidst his team’s five losses in their last six outings. Giannis Antetokounmpo contributed significantly with 22 points, 13 rebounds, and seven assists, but left the game limping after sustaining a leg issue late in the match. He had visibly struggled with his lower leg wrapped early in the game and continued to play despite discomfort.

The Nuggets faced their own hurdles, missing their star player and three-time MVP Nikola Jokic who has been sidelined since December 29 due to a bone bruise. Aaron Gordon also exited the game early due to a hamstring strain. Denver’s roster was further impacted by the absence of key players Jamal Murray, Peyton Watson, and Jonas Valanciunas due to various injuries. Despite these challenges, Hardaway added 17 points while Bruce Brown chipped in 15.

Meanwhile, the Bucks were also affected by injuries, as Kevin Porter Jr. sat out for the second consecutive game due to an oblique strain, along with AJ Green and Gary Trent Jr. who were held out due to illnesses.

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, the Nuggets will travel to face the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, while the Bucks prepare to host the Dallas Mavericks on the same day.
