Winnipeg Jets Welcome Back Josh Morrissey
The Winnipeg Jets are welcoming back defenseman Josh Morrissey after placing him on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury sustained while playing for Canada in the Olympics. This marks a significant boost for a team that is getting healthier at a crucial point in the season, especially as they gear up for a matchup against the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday.
Morrissey’s Injury and Team Performance
Morrissey was sidelined after suffering his injury during Canada’s opening game against the Czech Republic, forcing him out of the tournament. He has missed five games since returning to Winnipeg, but the Jets have managed to hold their ground with a record of 3-0-2, including a notable 4-1 win over the formidable Tampa Bay Lightning recently.
Roster Changes and Player Updates
In addition to Morrissey’s activation, the Jets have bolstered their roster by recalling forwards Brad Lambert and Isak Rosen from their AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. The move comes as the Jets look to fill the void left by Tanner Pearson’s trade to the Buffalo Sabres and the ongoing absence of Nino Niederreiter, who remains on injured reserve.
Isak Rosen, who is 22 years old, was drafted 14th overall in the 2021 NHL Draft but has struggled to secure a full-time position at the NHL level, notching eight points in 31 games. His AHL performance has been impressive, with 25 goals and 18 assists in 37 games this season.
Meanwhile, Brad Lambert, also 22, has expressed frustration with his situation in the Jets organization and was hoping for a trade before the deadline. Now, after being recalled, he might finally secure a chance to establish himself within the team’s main roster. Lambert has recorded a goal in four NHL games and accumulated 13 points in 34 contests with the Moose this season.
Looking Ahead
As the Jets prepare for their upcoming clash, the return of Morrissey along with the newly called-up forwards brings renewed optimism as they navigate this pivotal stretch of the season. They are looking to capitalize on their recent momentum and strengthen their playoff positioning.
