Historic Night for the St. Louis Blues
In a historic night for the St. Louis Blues, goaltender Jordan Binnington celebrated a significant achievement by surpassing Mike Liut for the most games played by a goalie in franchise history. The milestone was reached during a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames, marking Binnington’s 348th game with the team, a record that Liut held since his time with the franchise from 1981 to 1985.
Reflections on the Achievement
Now 32 years old, Binnington hinted he might share a lighthearted moment with Liut, who is also his agent.
“I might send him a text just for fun tonight,” Binnington noted. “It’s a great story how things have unfolded—Liut is a big legacy in St. Louis and inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. He’s been a great influence in my career.”
Having been drafted in the third round of the 2011 NHL Draft, Binnington has dedicated his entire professional journey to the Blues. His record-breaking career includes becoming the franchise leader in wins back in 2024 when he achieved his 152nd victory against the same Flames. Reflecting on his latest accomplishment, Binnington expressed that he feels “honored and humbled” and emphasized the importance of teamwork and perseverance.
Overcoming Challenges
Wednesday’s game was a redeeming moment for Binnington, particularly after a difficult outing just a week prior, where he was benched during a 6-1 defeat to the Washington Capitals after allowing four goals in 15 shots, notably among them, Alex Ovechkin’s 900th career goal.
“I’m enjoying the game again,” Binnington said, focusing on the joy of playing and the support from the crowds.
Against Calgary, he made 38 saves despite the Flames mounting an aggressive comeback, reducing a 3-0 deficit to just a one-goal gap in a matter of seconds during the second period. As Binnington commented,
“At times, as a goaltender, you appreciate that type of game. You have to stay engaged.”
Looking Ahead
As the season progresses, he remains optimistic about the chances for improvement and aims to build on this winning momentum for the Blues.
