Porter was guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, a federal crime that could lead to a prison sentence ranging from approximately three and a half to four years.

Gary Payton, a Basketball Hall of Famer and associate coach for the SuperHawks, commended Porter, stating,
“He made a mistake in his life, and now we’re past that. This is a great talent here. A great basketball player, and we’re going to change him. I’ll mentor him a lot.”
