Jonathan David Shines on Serie A Debut, Scoring for Juventus in Season Opener

Jonathan David’s Impressive Serie A Debut

In an impressive start to his Serie A journey, Canadian forward Jonathan David made a notable entrance by scoring in Juventus’s first match of the season, leading them to a 2-0 victory against Parma this past Sunday. David, who transferred to Juventus in July after his contract with Lille expired, quickly showcased his skills, netting his first goal in the 59th minute with a timely finish from a cross by Kenan Yildiz.

“It’s everything I hoped for,”

he said after receiving a warm ovation when substituted in the 80th minute.

Juventus Maintains Composure

Despite being reduced to ten men following Andrea Cambiaso’s dismissal late in the game, who received a red card for striking an opponent’s face during an aerial duel, Juventus maintained their composure. Just moments after the sending-off, Dusan Vlahovic, who came off the bench, extended the Bianconeri’s lead, capping off a counter that was initiated by Yildiz.

David, who previously recorded 25 goals and 12 assists in the last season with Lille, also holds the record as Canada’s all-time leading scorer with 36 goals from 67 games.

“The target is to help the team as much as I can. If it’s by scoring goals, by getting assists, running back, defending, I will do everything.”

Other Serie A Highlights

In other Serie A matches over the weekend, Pisa stunned Atalanta by taking an early lead, thanks to an own goal by defender Isak Hien. The match marked a significant transition for Atalanta as they began their season without their longtime coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who moved to Roma. However, Ivan Jurić‘s halftime adjustments bore fruit when Gianluca Scamacca equalized shortly after the break, marking his first goal in over a year.

Como, under the management of Cesc Fabregas, kickstarted their Serie A campaign with a 2-0 win over Lazio. Nico Paz was pivotal in the victory, setting up a goal early in the second half before scoring a stunning free kick. Notably, Lazio had a goal disallowed due to an offside called by VAR, with the decision communicated live to the stadium, a new practice this season in Italian football.

Cagliari also managed to salvage a point at home against Fiorentina, equalizing through Sebastiano Luperto in stoppage time, ensuring a thrilling conclusion to the opening week of Serie A.
