Suspension of Head Coach Joe Scott
Joe Scott, the head coach of the Air Force men’s basketball team, has been suspended indefinitely pending a formal investigation into the handling of cadet-athletes. This announcement came just before the Falcons were set to take on Nevada on January 17th.
Interim Coaching Arrangement
In a statement released by the athletic department, it was confirmed that Assistant Coach Jon Jordon, a graduate of the USAF Academy in 1985, will step in as the interim head coach during this period of uncertainty.
Current Team Performance
Scott, who is currently in his sixth season of his second term with the Falcons, is facing challenges on the court as well, with the team struggling to a record of 3 wins and 14 losses. The Falcons have not yet secured a victory in Mountain West Conference play, sitting at the bottom of the standings with an 0-6 mark.
Coaching Background
Scott returned to the Air Force program ahead of the 2020-21 season after spending two years as an assistant coach under Tom Crean at the University of Georgia. His coaching record with the Falcons across both terms stands at 97 wins against 183 losses.
Upcoming Game
Jordon, who was also part of Scott’s original coaching staff from 2000 to 2004, will lead the team at Clune Arena, where they are scheduled to tip off against Nevada at 4 p.m. ET on Saturday. This situation continues to develop as the investigation unfolds and the Air Force community awaits further updates.
