SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Nev. – In a remarkable display of skill, former NHL athlete Joe Pavelski clinched victory at the American Century Championship held at the picturesque Edgewood Tahoe on Sunday. At 41 years old, Pavelski completed the competition in style, finishing with an impressive 29 points in the final round under the modified Stableford scoring format. This performance secured him a substantial win, finishing nine points ahead of former Major League Baseball pitcher John Smoltz, who scored 28 points in the final round.

Pavelski’s Reaction and Prize

Pavelski, who finished second last year to Mardy Fish, expressed his astonishment at his win, stating:

“I don’t know what to say, actually. But just an amazing week. This place is incredible. It means the world to me.”

For his triumph, he took home a hefty prize of $150,000 from the overall purse of $750,000.

Top Competitors

In the battle for top places, country music artist Jake Owen came in third with a score of 62 after earning 21 points in the last round, while former soccer star Taylor Twellman, who shared the lead with Pavelski going into the final round, took fourth place with a score of 61, scoring just 17 points in his last outing.

Notably, NBA superstar Stephen Curry, the reigning champion from 2023, wrapped up the event in fifth place with 58 points, following a commendable performance worth 23 points. In contrast, golf commentator and former basketball player Charles Barkley finished at the bottom of the leaderboard, ranking 69th out of 90 participants with a total of minus 17 points.
