Jess Fishlock Signs One-Year Contract Extension with Seattle Reign FC, Continuing Her Legacy

Jess Fishlock Extends Contract with Seattle Reign FC

Jess Fishlock, a prominent figure in women’s soccer and an essential member of the Seattle Reign FC, has decided to continue her journey with the club by signing a one-year contract extension that will keep her in Seattle until at least 2026. This contract will add to her impressive tenure, marking nearly 14 years with the team since the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) was established in 2013.

Retirement from International Play

Fishlock recently concluded her international career with the Welsh national team, retiring after a significant two-decade period marked by notable achievements, including leading Wales to their first major tournament during last year’s Women’s Euro 2025. She etched her name in history as the oldest goalscorer in Women’s Euro history, a fitting end to her international duties. Reflecting on this pivotal moment, Fishlock expressed a renewed sense of purpose and desire to contribute to her club.

“When I came back from the Euros, I just felt a little different… I still really want to bring a championship to Seattle,”

she shared with ESPN.

Continued Success with Seattle Reign

Despite her retirement from international play, Fishlock remains competitive and energetic, having led the Reign in scoring during the 2025 season with six goals and two assists. At 39, she credits her enduring athleticism to the support of the Reign’s management, which allows her to take necessary breaks for recovery. Fishlock mentioned that it’s vital for her to assess her physical condition regularly.

The midfielder has played a pivotal role in the Reign’s successes, including two NWSL Shield victories in 2014 and 2015, and has achieved recognition as an NWSL MVP in 2021. She has been selected for the NWSL’s Best XI seven times and boasts a towering record of 48 goals and 30 assists for Seattle. Her commitment to the club is evident, especially as longtime teammate Lauren Barnes recently announced her retirement after the 2025 season, leaving the veteran Fishlock as the only remaining player from the league’s inception.

Enduring Legacy and Leadership

Fishlock’s connection to Seattle spans far beyond mere statistics and accolades; it embodies enduring relationships and a shared history with the fans and the evolving dynamics of the club. From overcoming challenges such as venue changes and organizational shifts to celebrating moments of triumph, her loyalty to Seattle remains profound. She remarked,

“It’s something about that whole journey and relationship that I think makes everything so much better when it happens.”

With the Reign poised for a new chapter as they welcome younger talents and navigate through ownership transitions, head coach Laura Harvey praised Fishlock’s experience, noting,

“Jess sees the game at a level that very few players do… Having her experience and presence in the locker room is invaluable as we push into 2026.”

Fishlock’s commitment to the team and her desire to elevate those around her position her as a critical leader heading into the forthcoming season.
