Jeremy Sarmiento’s Potential Exit from Brighton & Hove Albion
Jeremy Sarmiento is poised to make a permanent exit from Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of the closing of the summer transfer window in early September. The Ecuadorian winger has garnered interest from South American clubs; however, his preference leans towards continuing his career in Europe. Currently, Sarmiento’s contract with Brighton extends until June 2027, with an option for the club to extend it by another year.
Loan Spells and Performance
In recent seasons, the 23-year-old has spent time on loan at various Championship clubs. Notably, during the latter half of the 2023-24 season, he played a key role in Ipswich Town’s promotion to the Premier League, netting three goals across 20 matches. The following season, he continued his upward trajectory with a season-long loan at Burnley, contributing four goals in 35 league appearances. Earlier, he also played for West Bromwich Albion, where he scored twice in 20 games during the first half of the 2023-24 campaign.
Challenges at Brighton
Since joining Brighton from Charlton Athletic four years ago, Sarmiento has struggled to secure a consistent first-team position. He last took to the pitch for the senior squad as a substitute in August 2024, after which he transferred to Burnley. Recently, he appeared as a substitute in a friendly against Coventry City, which ended in a 2-0 victory during a training session at Brighton’s facility in Lancing under the guidance of manager Fabian Hurzeler.
End of an Era for Ecuadorian Players at Brighton
Sarmiento’s potential departure marks the end of Brighton’s relationship with Ecuadorian players. The club previously boasted three members from the Ecuadorian national team, which successfully reached the Round of 16 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, including Sarmiento himself. Following this, Moises Caicedo was sold to Chelsea in August 2023 and Pervis Estupinan joined AC Milan just recently.
