Jazza Dickens’ Title Defense Against Hayato Tsutsumi Canceled Due to Injury

Jazza Dickens’ Title Defense Canceled

Jazza Dickens, who turned professional in 2011, has had his highly anticipated initial title defense against Hayato Tsutsumi canceled due to an injury sustained by his opponent. The bout was slated for December 27 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Tsutsumi, an undefeated fighter with a record of eight wins, suffered a fracture in the orbital floor—the bone located beneath the eye socket—while training, as reported by Ring magazine.

Recent Achievements

Dickens recently claimed the WBA super-featherweight championship after Lamont Roach Jr. was stripped of the title. Now holding a record of 36 victories out of 41 fights, Dickens last entered the ring in July, where he triumphed over Albert Batyrgaziev of Russia in the fourth round, thereby securing the WBA interim championship.

Expressing Disappointment

Expressing his disappointment, Dickens shared in a YouTube video, “Upon waking this morning and checking my messages, it felt like a gut punch. It’s tough to hear that the fight is off, especially during such an important moment in my career as it was meant to be my first defense of the title. Life experiences have taught me that setbacks are part of the game; however, this timing is particularly frustrating given the stakes involved.”

Current Standing

Currently, Dickens stands as one of four male boxing champions from Britain, joining the ranks of Nick Ball, Lewis Crocker, and Fabio Wardley. Throughout his career, Dickens has found success in various weight categories, holding titles as both British champion at super-bantamweight and European champion at featherweight.
