Jazza Dickens Announced as New WBA Super-Featherweight Champion Following Title Stripping

Jazza Dickens Becomes WBA Super-Featherweight Champion

In a significant career development, Jazza Dickens from Liverpool has announced his elevation to the status of WBA super-featherweight champion following the title relinquishment by Lamont Roach. The American boxer, who secured the championship in 2023 and had one successful defense, has recently drawn in his last two matches, leading to his title being vacated as he fought outside his weight class.

Achievements and Future Challenges

Dickens, aged 34, demonstrated his skills in July where he achieved a stoppage victory over Russia’s Albert Batyrgaziev for the interim WBA belt. Expressing his emotions about this achievement, Dickens shared with BBC Sport,

“A lifetime of hard work is starting to pay off. Huge thanks to all the people who’ve put me in this position.”

The WBA has been contacted for an official confirmation of his new status.

This promotion makes Dickens the fourth active male champion in Britain, joining the ranks of Nick Ball, Lewis Crocker, and Fabio Wardley. Looking ahead, he is set to challenge the undefeated Japanese fighter, Hayato Tsutsumi, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on December 27.

Professional Record and Background

With a professional record of 36 wins in 41 fights, including 15 knockouts, Dickens has faced adversity but proven himself at high levels, having taken losses against notable fighters such as Guillermo Rigondeaux and Kid Galahad in high-stakes bouts. He has also made his mark in boxing across three weight divisions, previously holding the British title at super-bantamweight and the European title at featherweight.
