Jaylen Brown’s Aspirations Beyond Basketball
In a recent conversation during NBA All-Star Media Day, Jaylen Brown, the Boston Celtics’ standout player, revealed intriguing aspirations that extend beyond basketball. With the All-Star Game looming on Sunday, Brown, a five-time All-Star and NBA champion, reflected on the possibility of pursuing a career in the UFC or boxing after hanging up his basketball sneakers.
Conversations with Dana White
Brown’s comments arose after a media member shared a personal connection, citing past experiences training with the athlete’s father in a boxing gym. This prompted Brown to open up about his conversations with Dana White, the UFC president, regarding potential opportunities in mixed martial arts following his NBA career.
“To be honest, I’ve toyed with this idea and have spoken to some people. I would love to participate in something like the UFC or boxing once my basketball journey is over,”
he noted during the press session.
Family Legacy in Combat Sports
The connection to combat sports runs deep in Brown’s family lineage. His father, a former WBU champion, and his grandfather, Willie Brown, also had experience as a boxer, which undoubtedly influences Jaylen’s interest in fighting.
Future in the UFC?
Although he remains focused on his NBA responsibilities, particularly with Coach Joe Mazulla, who shares a passion for combat sports, Brown may find himself watching more UFC events in the near future, fueling his ambitions of stepping into the octagon once he concludes his time in the league.
