Jaron Ennis Set for Super Welterweight Debut this October Against Uisma Lima

Jaron Ennis Transitions to Super Welterweight

Jaron Ennis, the reigning WBA welterweight champion, is poised to transition to the super welterweight division. This exciting move was announced by Matchroom Boxing, revealing that Ennis will face Uisma Lima, an opponent who remains relatively unknown, on October 11 at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Matchup Details

This matchup against Lima will serve as a final eliminator for the WBA super welterweight title, currently held by Terence Crawford, who is gearing up for a fight against Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight championship. Crawford is not expected to continue in the super welterweight division. As a result, WBA (Regular) champion Yoenis Tellez could soon find himself elevated to full champion status, with Ennis positioned as the mandatory challenger.

Jaron Ennis’ Impressive Record

Jaron Ennis boasts an impressive professional record of 34 wins, 30 by knockout, and previously held both the WBA and IBF welterweight championships. He became the IBF champion following Crawford’s departure from the weight class in 2023 and successfully defended his title twice before securing a victory over WBA titleholder Eimantas Stanionis in Atlantic City this past April.

Uisma Lima’s Background

On the other side of the ring, Uisma Lima, who has a record of 14 wins with 10 knockouts, is based in Portugal. His sole defeat came in June 2023 when he stepped up to middleweight on short notice to face Aaron McKenna. However, Lima is currently on a four-fight winning streak, impressively defeating opponents in their own territories and ending three unbeaten records along the way.

Future Plans for Ennis

Additionally, Ennis recently signed a multi-year, multi-fight contract extension with Matchroom, which includes a future matchup against WBC interim champion Vergil Ortiz Jr. Initially set for February in Riyadh, Ennis had to withdraw from the fight after discovering it would be contested at 154 pounds. His preference lies with the welterweight division, where he feels he has unfinished business to attend to.
