Jared McCann Powers Kraken Past Capitals with Two Goals and Two Assists in 5-1 Triumph

Seattle Kraken Dominate Washington Capitals

In a dominant display on Tuesday night, the Seattle Kraken cruised to a 5-1 victory against the Washington Capitals, with Jared McCann leading the charge. McCann not only scored twice but also contributed two assists, showcasing his offensive prowess.

Key Performers

Joining McCann on the score sheet were Jordan Eberle and Matty Beniers, each netting a goal and an assist, while Ryker Evans added another tally for the Kraken. In goal, Philipp Grubauer was solid, stopping 19 shots.

For the Capitals, star player Alex Ovechkin found the net, marking his 22nd goal of the season and the 919th goal of his illustrious career, further solidifying his place in the NHL record books. Logan Thompson, who was in net for Washington, turned away 27 Kraken shots.

Game Highlights

The game shifted in Seattle’s favor when they began the second period with 1:30 remaining on a power play. McCann capitalized on this opportunity just 1:15 into the period with a shot from the right side, stretching the lead to 1-0. He then scored again with 9:51 left in the period, finishing a rebound from Beniers’ effort, marking McCann’s first multi-goal game of the season and extending Beniers’ point streak to four games.

Eberle further extended the Kraken’s advantage to 3-0 late in the second period, netting his team-leading 19th goal off another rebound from McCann’s hard shot.

As the third period commenced, McCann nearly completed his hat trick during a breakaway early in the frame, but the goal was annulled following the review of a double-minor penalty against Beniers. Instead, Ovechkin scored moments later with the Capitals enjoying a power play, reducing the deficit to 3-1 at the 2:30 mark.

Not to be deterred, Evans scored his fifth goal of the season to push the lead back to 4-1 with just under seven minutes left on the clock. Beniers then capped off a stellar night with his 13th goal of the season, solidifying a commanding 5-1 result for Seattle as the game neared its end. Remarkably, this goal marked Beniers’ ninth in January, tying the franchise record for the most goals in a single month.

Looking ahead, the Capitals will face off against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, while the Kraken are set to host the Toronto Maple Leafs on the same day.
