Jared Dudley Set to Become Lead Assistant Coach for the Denver Nuggets

Jared Dudley Joins Denver Nuggets

In a significant move within the NBA coaching ranks, Jared Dudley, previously serving as an assistant coach with the Dallas Mavericks, is set to join the Denver Nuggets as their lead assistant coach under David Adelman. This transition was reported by Andy Miller of Klutch Sports and confirmed by ESPN.

Dudley, 39, has been an integral part of the Mavericks’ coaching staff since 2021 after a successful 14-year career in professional basketball, where he averaged 7.3 points and 3.2 rebounds across 904 games, having been drafted by the Charlotte Bobcats in the first round of the 2007 NBA Draft.

Impact on the Mavericks

Dudley’s departure marks a significant loss for Dallas, which has already seen two other valuable assistants, Sean Sweeney and God Shammgod, depart for higher positions with the San Antonio Spurs and Orlando Magic, respectively. To fill the void, the Mavericks are reportedly in negotiations to bring in Frank Vogel as their new lead assistant under head coach Jason Kidd.

Nuggets’ Recent Developments

Meanwhile, the Nuggets have been making strides since appointing David Adelman as their full-time head coach earlier this year, following the firing of Michael Malone. Under Adelman’s guidance, the Nuggets successfully navigated the end of the regular season, securing victories in their last three games and advancing past the LA Clippers in the playoffs before ultimately falling to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a hard-fought seven-game series during the second round.

Front Office Changes and Free Agency Moves

In addition to their coaching changes, Denver has also revamped its front office structure, moving to a co-executive vice president model with Ben Tenzer overseeing basketball operations and Jonathan Wallace handling player personnel following the release of general manager Calvin Booth.

Amidst these changes, the Nuggets have been active in free agency, acquiring players such as forward Cameron Johnson and center Jonas Valanciunas, while also reaching agreements with Bruce Brown and Tim Hardaway Jr.. The moves suggest a focused effort by the Nuggets to bolster their roster for the upcoming season.
