Jannik Sinner Focuses on Recovery and Facility Upgrades Ahead of Cincinnati Return

Jannik Sinner’s Return to Competitive Tennis

Jannik Sinner is gearing up to make his return to competitive tennis at the Cincinnati Open, following his recent triumph at Wimbledon. In discussing his preparations, the young star addressed lingering concerns regarding an elbow injury sustained during a critical fourth-round match against Grigor Dimitrov. Despite trailing 0-2, Sinner advanced to the quarterfinals after Dimitrov was forced to retire, injured during the third set. Unfortunately for Sinner, he also experienced discomfort after falling early in the match, which impacted his right elbow throughout the contest.

Injury Precautions and Sleeve Usage

Since winning the prestigious championship, Sinner has taken precautionary measures, regularly wearing an arm sleeve to provide support. While at Wimbledon, he donned heavy strapping under the sleeve—an accessory that wasn’t visible during his recent practice session in Cincinnati. Sinner reassured fans about his condition in a pre-tournament press conference, indicating that his choice to wear the sleeve is based on personal preference rather than injury concerns.

“Today was the first time that I put the sleeve on because I liked the feeling of the sleeve. The impact with the ball is slightly more stable, that’s my point of view and I liked it at Wimbledon,”

he stated. He also noted that he would evaluate how the sleeve performs in Cincinnati’s humid conditions.

Strategic Withdrawal for Recovery

In light of his recent success, Sinner made the strategic decision to withdraw from the 2025 Canadian Open to prioritize his recovery. He acknowledged that in the past, he sometimes returned to competition too soon, which hindered his performance.

“The body and mind need to recover and need to understand what happened. I’m very happy I took some time off after Wimbledon, seeing my family and friends and very important people I have around,”

he explained.

Player Experience at the Cincinnati Open

Notably, Sinner isn’t the only top player who opted out of Toronto this year; others like Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic also stepped back from the event.

As part of his remarks about the Cincinnati Open, Sinner praised the extensive renovations made to the venue, noting the investment of hundreds of millions of dollars to enhance facilities for players.

“It’s amazing what they did in one year. Everything has improved so, so much, but mostly the space they have for us players. Things inside and outside, the dining area is much, much bigger and when you come from the transportation, it’s like a hotel. It’s amazing. Incredible,”

he commented, reflecting on the upgrades that enhance the player experience at the tournament.
