Jamestown’s Elise Roberts Set for State Tennis Challenge After Hard-Earned Qualification

Elise Roberts Set to Compete in NDHSAA Tennis State Tournament

On May 30, Jamestown’s Elise Roberts is set to embark on a significant journey as she competes in the individual section of the 2025 NDHSAA Tennis State Tournament, taking place at Choice Health and Fitness in Grand Forks. This weekend marks a pivotal moment for the junior from Jamestown High School, who recently secured her spot by performing admirably at the West Region Tournament.

“Going into the WDA tournament, I had my doubts, knowing the level of competition I was about to face,” Roberts shared.

Despite her reservations, she maintained a belief that she could achieve the necessary results to qualify for the state event.

Matchup and Performance

Seeded eighth in the West Region, Roberts will square off against Sarea Gu of West Fargo Sheyenne, the top seed from the EDC, on Friday at 10 a.m. Although the matchup poses a challenge, her recent performance suggests she may give Gu a run for her money.

Roberts kicked off her WDA tournament with an impressive 6-1, 6-0 victory over Berkley Schettler from Bismarck High, followed by a tightly contested 6-4, 7-6(4) win against Minot High’s McKenna Odahlen. Although she faced defeat in the quarterfinals against Avy Ator of Williston, Roberts bounced back in the consolation rounds, claiming a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bismarck St. Mary’s Abby Schmidt to secure her state qualification.

“Winning that qualifying match brought an overwhelming sense of relief,” Roberts reflected. “I have been working tirelessly during the off-season, so to finally see the fruits of my labor was immensely rewarding.”
