Jalen Chatfield Out for Hurricanes Matchup Against Blackhawks Due to Injury

Carolina Hurricanes Roster Update

In a development impacting their roster, the Carolina Hurricanes will be without defenseman Jalen Chatfield for their upcoming game against the Chicago Blackhawks due to a lower-body injury. Chatfield was able to participate in only two shifts during the final period of Tuesday’s thrilling 6-5 victory over the Boston Bruins, which allowed the Hurricanes to secure the Metropolitan Division title. This season, Chatfield has contributed significantly to the team’s performance, netting two goals and achieving a personal best with 15 assists across 71 games.

Coach’s Concerns and Team Performance

Hurricanes’ coach Rod Brind’Amour expressed concern regarding injuries within the team, stating, “You’re always worried when players are unavailable. I aim to remain optimistic that this won’t be a lingering issue, but he’s not at full capacity, so he will not be playing tonight.”

Despite this setback, Carolina is leading the Eastern Conference, maintaining a slight edge over the Buffalo Sabres by a two-point margin as they head into Thursday’s game.

Lineup Adjustments

To bolster the lineup in light of Chatfield’s absence, the Hurricanes called up defenseman Charles Alexis Legault and forwards Skyler Brind’Amour, Bradly Nadeau, and Josiah Slavin from their AHL affiliate. Brind’Amour shared that there was no morning skate on Thursday, leaving the exact lineup uncertain, although he anticipates that at least three of the new arrivals will take to the ice against the Blackhawks.

“We had a few guys take some hits the other night,” Brind’Amour explained. “It’s truly a game-time call as to who is available, but some key players will be missing the action tonight.”

Among those recalled, Skyler Brind’Amour is the coach’s son, while Josiah Slavin is related to Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin. Skyler Brind’Amour made a notable impact in last season’s two games, scoring a goal, and Josiah Slavin previously logged time with the Blackhawks, contributing an assist in 15 games during the 2021-22 season.
