The final match saw Mensik dominate the opening set within just 31 minutes, during which he tallied 11 aces. He had a chance to clinch the match in the second set, leading 6-5 as he served for the victory. However, Baez managed to break his serve for the first time, pushing the set into a tiebreak. Despite finding himself down 6-3 in that deciding tiebreak, Mensik rallied, winning three consecutive points to even the score. He eventually sealed his victory with his 18th ace on a match point followed by a decisive play against Baez’s serve.

Following this win, Mensik expressed his satisfaction with the start of the season, emphasizing the hard work he put in during his preparations.

“I would say it has been a great start of the year. Obviously, I’m super happy after the preparation and pre-season. Seb is a great fighter. It’s difficult to hit a winner against him,”

he noted.

As he looks ahead, Mensik is set to compete at the Australian Open where he will face Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta in the opening round. On the other side, Baez, who had an impressive run in Auckland that included a victory over top-seeded American Ben Shelton, will meet Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in his first match in Melbourne.
