Ohio High School Boys Tennis Season Highlights
As the Ohio high school boys tennis season comes to a close, excitement builds for the upcoming state tournament, scheduled for May 29 and 30 at the College of Wooster. This year’s competition has been intense, with athletes from central Ohio striving tirelessly throughout the regular season to secure their spots in the prestigious final event.
Central Ohio’s Boys Tennis Player of the Season
In a recent poll, nine standout players from the region were nominated for the title of Central Ohio’s boys tennis player of the season. After collecting and tallying votes, Jackson Clements from New Albany emerged as the clear winner. The senior athlete showcased his skills by completing the regular season with an impressive 14 wins and 3 losses, competing in both first singles and first doubles categories alongside teammate Abhinav Dandu, with whom he qualified for the state tournament in doubles. Notably, this marks Clements’ third consecutive year as a state qualifier in singles.
New Albany’s coach, Marc Thomas, expressed pride in Clements, stating, “I’ve known Jackson since he was 5 years old. Watching him progress into the outstanding player he has become has truly been a special experience.”
Voting Results and Other Contenders
Clements garnered 46.77% of the overall votes, surpassing the doubles duo from London, Aidan Cooney and Cade Spring, who secured 31.42%. Other contenders included:
- Shane Hand from Olentangy Liberty (9.39%)
- Nason Lo of Columbus Academy (4.41%)
- Gianni Russo from Marysville (4.08%)
- Nik Shough of Dublin Coffman (2.14%)
- Bexley’s Henry Lessard (1.05%)
- Austin Bruey from Pickerington Central (0.45%)
- Pedro Prieto Moura of Thomas Worthington (0.3%)

All these remarkable athletes are under consideration for the All-Metro boys tennis team, which will be unveiled during the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards show on June 18 at Upper Arlington High School.
