Utah Mammoth Re-signs Jack McBain
In a significant move reflecting their commitment to team strength, the Utah Mammoth have secured center Jack McBain by re-signing him to a five-year contract valued at $21.25 million, as announced on Monday. This deal places a $4.25 million cap hit on the team’s books through the 2029-30 NHL season.
Contract Details and Team Impact
The contract comes shortly after the organization opted for salary arbitration with McBain, a restricted free agent. Bill Armstrong, the club’s general manager, emphasized McBain’s contributions, highlighting his physical gameplay and commitment.
“He is a big, strong, physical player who competes hard on a nightly basis and brings a gritty toughness to our group,”
said Armstrong, adding that McBain’s presence is vital for the championship aspirations of the team.
Player Performance and Future Prospects
At just 25 years old, McBain had a breakout season, achieving a career-high of 27 points while participating in every one of the 82 games. He was part of a select group of players to play the entire first season of the franchise in Salt Lake City, an achievement shared with only five others on the team.
Chris Armstrong, the president of hockey operations, expressed faith in McBain’s role, stating that
“Jack’s versatility, care for his teammates, and his winning mentality are essential to our future success.”
Since joining the franchise from Arizona, McBain has accumulated 82 points in 241 games and notably ranks third in the NHL with 832 hits since his debut in April 2022.
