Jack Draper Struggles with Tonsillitis as He Faces Frustration at Queen’s Club Championship Ahead of Wimbledon

Jack Draper’s Challenging Lead-Up to Wimbledon

Jack Draper faced a challenging lead-up to Wimbledon, grappling not only with his match outcomes but also with health issues. Entering as the fourth seed, Draper is viewed as a potential surprise contender at this year’s prestigious tournament, standing just behind top-tier players like Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner, and Novak Djokovic. His performance at the Queen’s Club Championships, however, did not unfold as favorably as fans had hoped.

Queen’s Club Championships Performance

Draper’s campaign kicked off positively with victories over Jenson Brooksby, Alexei Popyrin, and Brandon Nakashima, although he dropped a set in each encounter. However, his progress was halted in a tightly contested semi-final against Jiri Lehecka, where Draper ultimately lost 6-4, 4-6, 7-5. The match was intense, and Draper, frustrated with his inability to secure the win, expressed his emotions through an outburst directed at an advertising board late in the match.

“It was a mix of emotions for sure. I felt the pressure of my hard work paying off, and then when I missed critical shots, it made it even tougher to swallow,” Draper explained. “Ultimately, I need to handle these emotions better, especially in high-stakes situations.”

Health Struggles

In his post-match press conference, Draper also candidly discussed his ongoing health setback—his struggle with tonsillitis. “I’ve been feeling under the weather, dealing with some phlegm and tonsillitis this past week, which I believe affected my performance. It’s been difficult to find my rhythm, especially playing against top opponents on grass, where every point is crucial,” he admitted.

Despite his physical challenges, Draper expressed pride in his efforts on the court, recognizing that in professional sports, regardless of personal struggles, the expectation remains to compete fiercely.

“At the end of the day, no one cares about your issues when you’re out there. You have to put your best foot forward, and I believe I did that. I gave myself a fighting chance.”

Looking Ahead to Wimbledon

Looking ahead to Wimbledon, Draper aims to bounce back from this setback, hoping that playing in front of a supportive home crowd will provide the boost he needs to perform at his best. As one of the local favorites, he will be counting on their encouragement as he strives for success at the All England Club.
