Italian Duo Errani and Paolini Claim Women’s Doubles Title at French Open

Italian Duo Triumphs at French Open

In an exciting finale at the French Open, the Italian duo of Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini triumphed over Kazakhstan’s Anna Danilina and Serbia’s Aleksandra Krunic with a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 in the women’s doubles competition on Sunday. This victory marks a significant achievement for Errani and Paolini, as it is their very first Grand Slam title as a team. Notably, this win adds to their impressive resume that also includes the doubles championship at the Paris Olympics in 2024, an event they previously dominated on the same court.

Errani’s Longevity and Stellar Performance

Errani, who at 38 years old showcases remarkable longevity in the sport, has had a stellar week, capturing another title in the mixed doubles category alongside her fellow Italian Andrea Vavassori. The match unfolded with both pairs exchanging breaks during the opening set. Ultimately, it was the Olympic champions who claimed the set after securing a break at 5-4.

Match Dynamics

The second set saw a resurgence from Danilina, a finalist in the doubles category at the Australian Open in 2022, and Krunic, as they comfortably leveled the match by taking the set. However, the Italians surged ahead early in the deciding set, breaking their opponents twice to establish a commanding 5-0 lead.

The match concluded with Krunic misfiring a forehand into the net, sealing the victory for Errani and Paolini, who are currently positioned sixth in the doubles rankings.

Paolini previously showcased her talent by reaching both the singles and doubles finals at last year’s French Open but faced an early exit in this year’s singles draw after falling in the fourth round.
