Isis Sio’s Journey of Recovery
In a heartfelt conversation with World Boxing News, fighter Isis Sio shared her recollections from a life-altering moment before suffering a knockout that placed her in a coma. Following her harrowing first-round defeat to Jocelyn Camarillo last weekend, Sio’s condition has shown promising signs of recovery as she has been taken off the ventilator.
Reflections on the Fight
Reflecting on the events leading up to the fight, Sio recalled,
“My last clear thought was in the locker room, feeling eager and excited to step into the ring.”
She went on to explain that much of the ensuing chaos remains a blur, with the details primarily pieced together through conversations with her family, team, and medical staff.
Focus on Healing
At this stage, her primary objective is to concentrate on her recovery, taking each day as it comes.
“My main priority right now is healing and making progress every day while following the guidance of my doctors and loved ones,”
Sio stated.
Despite having viewed parts of the match, Sio emphasized that her current concern isn’t about revisiting the fight, but rather about being thankful for her recovery.
“I’m focusing on feeling better, not on the fight itself,”
she reaffirmed.
Boxing as a Passion
Boxing holds a significant place in Sio’s life, and she is determined that it will remain integral to her future, regardless of the challenges she faces.
“Boxing isn’t just a sport for me—it’s a passion. It has provided me with purpose and direction,”
she expressed. Notably, Sio has also established a boxing company in her name, having registered an LLC prior to the match against Camarillo, indicating her ambition within the sport.
Public Support and Future Considerations
The extensive support Sio has received from the public is noteworthy, although many fans are concerned about the sustainability of her career in such a physically demanding sport after experiencing a coma. On social media, while sentiments of encouragement prevail, there are opinions suggesting she may want to contemplate stepping back from boxing.
At this moment, Sio remains grateful for her life and recovery, with her future in boxing—be it a return to the ring, a coaching role, or using her experience to mentor young fighters—still unfolding. As she stated poignantly,
“Only time will tell what lies ahead for her in the boxing world.”
