Inzaghi Poised to Depart Inter Milan After Champions League Defeat
Following a disappointing defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final held on Saturday, Inter Milan’s head coach Simone Inzaghi is poised to depart from the club. The 49-year-old manager, who has enjoyed a successful four-year tenure at Inter, has claimed numerous domestic titles, including:
- Serie A championship for the 2023-24 season
- Two Coppa Italia titles
- Three Supercoppa Italiana trophies
Furthermore, he guided the team to two Champions League finals, most recently facing PSG where they suffered a significant 5-0 loss.
Potential Move to Al Hilal
Inzaghi’s anticipated exit coincides with a lucrative offer from Al Hilal, a Saudi Pro League club currently seeking a permanent head coach after Jorge Jesus’ departure in May. This trend of managerial changes in Serie A has seen high-profile coaches like Milan’s Sergio Conceicao and Atalanta’s Gian Piero Gasperini also part ways with their clubs recently.
Inzaghi’s Legacy at Inter
Inzaghi took the helm at Inter in 2021, following a five-year stint with Lazio. Under his leadership, Inter captured a total of six trophies overall, although the culmination of the 2024-25 season left the club without significant accolades. They narrowly lost the Scudetto to Napoli, were defeated by AC Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana final, and faced elimination by the same rival in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.
“We played 59 games this season, we reached this final, so it’s awkward to talk about my future now,”
Looking Ahead
Despite the heartbreak, looking ahead, Inter will have an opportunity to compete for trophies again later this summer in the Club World Cup. They are placed in Group E, scheduled to face Mexican team Monterrey on June 17, with further matches planned against Japan’s Urawa Red Diamonds and Argentina’s River Plate.
