Inter Miami’s Messi shines with goal and assist in victory over Seattle Sounders

Inter Miami Triumphs Over Seattle Sounders

In a thrilling rematch on Tuesday night, Inter Miami CF triumphed over the Seattle Sounders with a score of 3-1, significantly changing the narrative after their loss to the Sounders in the Leagues Cup final just two weeks earlier. In that final held on August 31, Seattle had claimed victory with a decisive 3-0 win.

Messi’s Impact on the Game

Lionel Messi was instrumental in Miami’s comeback, contributing to the win with a goal and an assist. The sequence began in the 12th minute when Messi delivered a perfectly placed outside-of-the-foot pass to Jordi Alba, allowing him to score the opening goal and give Miami an early lead.

Messi almost doubled the advantage in the first half; however, his attempt in the 28th minute struck the post after a similarly ambitious play. The Argentine superstar later showcased his skill again in the 41st minute, where Alba returned the favor by setting up Messi for a well-timed finish, bringing the score to 2-0 at halftime.

Second Half Highlights

As the second half unfolded, Miami extended their lead further when Ian Fray scored from a corner delivered by Rodrigo De Paul, marking a commanding 3-0 advantage. Seattle managed to find the net in the 69th minute when Obed Vargas scored, notably coinciding with Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations.

The match also saw Messi nearly scoring his second goal in the 76th minute, but Sounders’ goalkeeper Stefan Frei was able to thwart his effort. Notably absent for Inter Miami was Luis Suárez, who was serving a suspension for three matches following an incident in the Leagues Cup final.

New Faces and Upcoming Matches

In a new addition to the team, Mateo Silvetti made his debut for Inter Miami after joining from Messi’s former club, Newell’s Old Boys in Argentina. Looking ahead, Inter Miami will face D.C. United this coming Saturday, while the Sounders prepare for an away match against Austin FC on Sunday.
