Inter Miami CF is reportedly in negotiations with defender Sergio Reguilón as they look to strengthen their roster for the upcoming 2026 MLS season. This move comes in light of veteran player Jordi Alba’s announcement of his retirement from professional football, which will take effect at the end of this year.
Jordi Alba’s Retirement
Alba had previously agreed to extend his contract with the team through 2027 but ultimately decided to step back from the sport, leading Inter Miami to seek a suitable replacement in Reguilón.
Sergio Reguilón’s Background
Currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract with Tottenham Hotspur this summer, Reguilón is set to arrive in Miami during the winter transfer window in January. The Spanish left-back joined Spurs in September 2020 on a five-year contract and made an impressive debut shortly thereafter.
During his time at Tottenham, he made a total of 73 appearances, scoring twice before embarking on loan spells to Atlético Madrid, Manchester United, and Brentford.

Before contributing to the Premier League scene, Reguilón had a brief career in LaLiga, where he played for prominent clubs such as Real Madrid and Sevilla. His experience and skill could prove vital for Inter Miami as they prepare for the future without the seasoned Alba on their lineup.
