Injury Update: OG Anunoby
In a challenging evening for the New York Knicks, forward OG Anunoby’s participation in Friday’s clash against the Miami Heat was cut short due to a left hamstring strain. The injury occurred early in the first quarter, specifically at the 6:52 mark, when Anunoby missed a layup and seemed to experience discomfort in his leg. Shortly thereafter, he retreated to the locker room, and by the beginning of the second quarter, the Knicks confirmed that he would not return to the match.
Season Performance
At 28 years old, Anunoby was enjoying a solid season, averaging 17.1 points along with 5.8 rebounds per game. This setback comes after he matched his career-high by playing 74 games last season, marking one of the few occasions he had surpassed the 70-game threshold in his career.
Additional Challenges for the Knicks
The situation was further compounded for New York, as they were already without star point guard Jalen Brunson. The latter is dealing with a Grade 1 sprain to his right ankle, sustained in the final moments of Wednesday’s game against the Orlando Magic. After being seen in a walking boot post-game, Brunson has been labeled day-to-day regarding his potential return.
When questioned about Brunson’s recovery timeline prior to Friday’s matchup, coach Mike Brown refrained from providing specifics, simply repeating the existing diagnosis.
