Jeremy Sochan’s Injury and EuroBasket Absence
In a setback for the Polish national basketball team, Jeremy Sochan, who plays forward for the San Antonio Spurs, has been sidelined due to a calf injury sustained during training in Poland. The Polish Basketball Federation confirmed that Sochan will not participate in the upcoming EuroBasket tournament.
Sochan’s Statement and Team Spirit
Expressing his disappointment, Sochan shared his regret in a statement, highlighting the hard work he had put in leading up to the event.
“It’s unfortunate that I will not be able to compete for Poland at this year’s EuroBasket due to my calf muscle injury,”
he mentioned. He went on to commend the team and the incredible experience he had while training and playing with them, stating,
“It’s a special group, and I loved being part of this team.”
Outlook for Recovery
Despite this injury, there’s optimism for Sochan’s recovery. Medical professionals anticipate that he will regain full fitness ahead of the San Antonio Spurs’ training camp, which is set to begin before the NBA season. Sochan noted,
“I want to thank my teammates, coaches, and everyone involved, especially the Polish fans, for their unwavering support during this time. Even though I won’t be able to join you on the court, my heart will always be with Poland.”
Spurs Management and Future Prospects
In light of his condition, Spurs General Manager Brian Wright emphasized the excellent care Sochan received in Poland while also agreeing that returning to San Antonio was the best course of action.
Sochan, aged 22 and the sole active NBA player on Poland’s roster, holds a unique connection to the country through his mother. He averaged 11.4 points and 6.5 rebounds per game in his previous season with the Spurs. With his eligibility for an extension approaching, the pressure will be on if no agreement is reached, as he would enter restricted free agency next summer.
Poland’s Basketball Talent
Additionally, Poland’s squad features Igor Milicic, who played at Tennessee last season and is poised to join the Philadelphia 76ers training camp, further showcasing the depth of talent within the Polish basketball circuit.
