Injury Report: Kesselring Out for Weeks, Positive News for Benson

Buffalo Sabres Injury Updates

In a recent briefing, Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff shared critical updates regarding the health of his players ahead of the upcoming games.

Michael Kesselring’s Injury

Defenseman Michael Kesselring left Saturday’s thrilling 5-4 overtime win against the Detroit Red Wings early in the third period, and as of Monday, he was spotted wearing a boot.

“He’s going to be sidelined for a significant stretch, likely several weeks,”

Ruff disclosed following Tuesday’s practice session.

Kesselring, who was acquired in June along with winger JJ Peterka from Utah, has faced numerous setbacks since joining the Sabres. He previously missed a month due to an injury sustained late in training camp and has only managed to participate in eight games since his return in late October before being out again.

In Kesselring’s absence, Jacob Bryson stepped into the defense lineup for the match against Edmonton, with Owen Power adjusting to play on his off-side.

Zach Benson’s Recovery

In contrast to Kesselring’s unfortunate news, there was some positive development regarding winger Zach Benson. Despite being seen in a protective boot in the press box on Monday, Ruff indicated optimism about Benson’s recovery, stating,

“I spoke with him this morning, and I believe he’ll re-join the morning skate today, which is encouraging.”

The young player, who started the season strong with eight assists in eight games, had previously dealt with a lower-body injury that followed an infection from a facial cut requiring hospitalization.

Other Player Updates

Additionally, Ruff noted that center Josh Norris and winger Jason Zucker participated in practice in grey non-contact jerseys. Reports suggest that Zucker could be cleared to play as soon as this weekend when the Sabres are set to face Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday, followed by a match against the Carolina Hurricanes on Sunday afternoon.
