Injury Update on Darcy Kuemper
In a concerning turn of events during a match against the New York Rangers, Los Angeles Kings goalkeeper Darcy Kuemper had to exit the game due to an injury sustained from an on-ice incident. This occurred late in the first period when a collision in the crease took place involving Rangers player Jonny Brodzinski, who made contact with Kuemper’s head while rushing towards the net.
Although the impact did not seem severe, Kuemper appeared cautious as he continued skating and subsequently retreated to the locker room with just under 39 seconds left in the period, prompting the Kings to send in backup Anton Forsberg to take over goalkeeping duties.
Kuemper’s Injury History
The 35-year-old Kuemper, a seasoned NHL player with over 14 years of experience, has faced challenges with injuries recently; he was sidelined for a significant portion of December due to a head injury sustained in a previous game against the Dallas Stars. Following his recovery, he made his return on January 1 and has since participated in nine out of eleven Kings games this month.
Olympic Aspirations
As a notable addition to Canada’s Olympic roster, which was announced on New Year’s Eve, Kuemper joins fellow goalies Jordan Binnington and Logan Thompson in representing the nation at the upcoming Winter Games. His previous accolade includes winning the Stanley Cup with the Colorado Avalanche in 2022, making his performance and health a critical factor for both his team and the Olympic squad moving forward.
