Ingram’s Heel Injury Hampers Raptors in Game 5 Setback to Cavaliers

Raptors Suffer Disappointing Loss in Game 5

CLEVELAND – In a disappointing Game 5, the Toronto Raptors fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers with a final score of 125-120, suffering a critical blow with the exit of forward Brandon Ingram due to inflammation in his right heel. This setback came after Ingram had already been battling foot issues earlier in the season, which had caused him to miss three matches in the closing month. The injury resurfaced in the second quarter as he attempted to maneuver past Evan Mobley, resulting in a turnover.

Ingram’s Short-Lived Performance

Ingram’s time on the court was short-lived; he logged just 11 minutes, finishing the game with a mere point, two assists, and one rebound while shooting 0-for-2 from the field. Head coach Darko Rajaković provided an update after the match, indicating that the team tried to re-tape Ingram during halftime in hopes of salvaging his participation in the second half.

“He reaggravated the heel on one play,”

Rajaković noted, adding that further evaluations on Ingram’s condition would be conducted the following day.

Impact on the Team

Despite Toronto initially leading the game 74-67 at the half and entering the final quarter with a slim 103-100 advantage, Ingram’s removal from the action was felt deeply by his teammates. Scottie Barnes articulated the significance of Ingram’s role, stating,

“We needed him out there on the floor. The way they guard him, his shot-making ability when he’s out there on the floor… He makes big plays for us on the defensive end as well.”

Challenges Ahead for the Raptors

This loss marked a tough moment for the Raptors, who are now trailing 3-2 in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Toronto was already without their starting point guard Immanuel Quickley, sidelined for the series due to a hamstring injury sustained in the last regular-season match. Adding to the team’s woes, Barnes himself faced an injury during the game, feeling discomfort in his quadriceps while driving to the basket. He managed to finish with 17 points on 6-of-16 shooting, alongside 11 assists and 8 rebounds, but acknowledged it hindered his performance:

“Obviously, it had some effect. I couldn’t play with that same pace that I was trying to play with. Had a little limp out there, but I was trying to push through it, trying to win the game.”

Looking Ahead

Looking ahead, Barnes plans to focus on recovery to be ready for Friday’s crucial game.
