Igor Thiago’s Debut for Brazil
LONDON (AP) — Igor Thiago marked his first selection for Brazil’s national team by finding the back of the net during a suspenseful 2-2 draw between Brentford and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League on Monday. The 19-year-old striker scored his league goal just before the first half concluded, tapping into an unguarded net to secure his 19th goal of the season.
Match Highlights
Brentford initially took the lead thanks to Michael Kayode, whose header put the team ahead in the 30th minute. This was particularly special for Kayode, as it was his first goal in his 41 appearances for the club. Just before the halftime whistle, Wolves’ Adam Armstrong replied, netting a goal to level up the score.
In a dramatic finish, Tolu Arokodare equalized for Wolves with a header 13 minutes from time. Despite the tie, Wolves remain at the bottom of the league table, still 12 points adrift from safety, while Brentford held onto seventh place, remaining two points clear of Everton and three points shy of Chelsea.
Brazil’s Upcoming Friendlies
Earlier in the day, Brazil’s head coach Carlo Ancelotti announced Thiago’s inclusion in the squad for upcoming friendlies against France in Boston on March 26 and Croatia in Orlando on March 30. Thiago, who previously played for Cruzeiro, Ludogorets, and Brugge, is one of nine forwards called up in a 26-player roster, which includes notable talents like Endrick from Lyon and Rayan from Bournemouth, but conspicuously excludes Neymar, who has been struggling to shine at Santos recently.
