Iga Swiatek’s Psychologist Defends Close Collaboration Amid Public Scrutiny

Daria Abramowicz and Iga Swiatek: A Supportive Partnership

Daria Abramowicz, the psychologist supporting Polish tennis star Iga Swiatek, has recently addressed mounting public pressure urging her to take a more distant role in Swiatek’s team. In sports, having a dedicated support team is common, and players often surround themselves with coaches, physiotherapists, and psychologists to optimize their performance. Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam champion, has chosen to work with a relatively sizeable team, which notably includes Abramowicz.

Abramowicz’s Background and Role

Abramowicz, herself an ex-athlete, transitioned to psychology after earning her degrees from the Gdansk University of Physical Education and Sport and SWPS University in Warsaw. Since teaming up with Swiatek in 2019, their successful collaboration has led to questions from fans about the appropriateness of their relationship, particularly as some insiders, like psychologist Dariusz Nowicki, hinted that their bond might be crossing professional boundaries.

Addressing Public Scrutiny

During a recent interview with Marek Furjan, Abramowicz was questioned on the thought of sitting further from the court during matches to possibly alleviate public scrutiny. Furjan proposed that positioning herself a few rows back might ease the tensions perceived by fans. In response, Abramowicz affirmed that her role is dictated by Swiatek’s preferences and needs.

If Swiatek requested that I sit back, I would certainly comply. My main obligation is to support her as she sees fit.

She elaborated that they often discuss the dynamics of their working relationship, asking Swiatek if she desired any adjustments in their collaboration, including whether Abramowicz should forego attending certain tournaments. To date, the former world number one has expressed a desire for Abramowicz to remain present, indicating satisfaction with their setup.

Continued Success

As it stands, Abramowicz continues to occupy her spot in Swiatek’s support team, and recent successes, including a victory at Wimbledon, suggest that their partnership remains fruitful.
