Iga Swiatek’s Injury Update Ahead of Korea Open
Iga Swiatek has recently provided an update regarding a foot injury that had been a concern as she prepares to kick off her Asian tour at the 2025 Korea Open in Seoul. Following her performance at the US Open, where she reached the quarterfinals but was defeated by Amanda Anisimova in straight sets (6-4, 6-3), Swiatek took to Instagram to share her thoughts and experiences from the tournament.
Reflections on the US Open
In her message, the Polish tennis star revealed that she was contending with a foot issue during the competition, which added complexity to her matches. Swiatek expressed pride in having reached the quarterfinals under such circumstances, stating:
“Playing matches without practicing on days off and managing a lot on my plate was challenging, but I gained valuable experiences from it. I look forward to coming back next year with renewed determination.”
Despite her performance in New York, Swiatek has been absent from the court since her loss, making her the first player in the WTA Top 10 to return to competitive action. Concerns about her injury have prompted inquiries ahead of her upcoming matches in Seoul.
Health and Preparation
On the subject of her health, Swiatek noted that her preparation was limited but emphasized that she feels physically fit, saying:
“I haven’t been practicing a lot since the US Open, as I needed time to recover. I feel great physically; I just need a bit more practice, but I don’t have any pain or issues. All is good.”
Coach’s Insights
Swiatek’s coach, Wim Fissette, also addressed her foot injury in a recent interview with the Polish outlet Sport.pl, reflecting on the difficulties faced during the US Open due to a blister on her foot. He noted:
“We had to be exceptionally cautious before the tournament began. Looking back, I believe we managed the situation as well as we could, thanks to the support from the entire team, including Iga’s medical professionals.”
Fissette also responded to questions regarding whether Swiatek’s participation in mixed doubles ahead of the US Open could have contributed to her foot problems. He expressed his conviction, along with Swiatek’s physiotherapist, that it did not factor significantly into her struggles:
“We discussed it thoroughly, and neither of us believes that mixed doubles worsened her condition. The main issue arose during a particularly hot tournament in Cincinnati, which affected her performance due to the intense movements required.”
Looking Ahead
As Swiatek heads to the WTA 500 event in Seoul, she is now confident in her recovery. If all goes smoothly, she could potentially face fellow Grand Slam champions like Emma Raducanu or Barbora Krejcikova in the quarter-finals, making her return an exciting event to watch for fans and followers alike.
