Iga Swiatek Celebrates Milestone 400th Win, Moves Forward at China Open

Swiatek Achieves 400th Career Victory at China Open

In a strong showing at the China Open, Iga Swiatek, the reigning Wimbledon champion, achieved a significant milestone by securing her 400th career victory after defeating Camila Osorio on Monday. The match, however, was marred by Osorio’s early retirement after losing the first set 6-0 and facing complications at the start of the second set.

Historic Achievements

Swiatek made headlines earlier in the tournament by becoming the first player in history to achieve 25 or more wins at WTA-1000 events for three consecutive years, a testament to her dominance in the sport. She had previously triumphed over Yuan Yue in straight sets, showcasing her impressive skills.

Against Osorio, she opened strongly but the Colombian suffered an injury that led her to take a medical time-out. After a double fault put her in a vulnerable position in the second set, Osorio opted to withdraw from the match.

“For sure, I’m sorry for Camila because she’s always giving her 100%,” Swiatek commented, expressing her sympathy for her opponent. “She told me she got injured at the beginning of the match, and it’s always pretty sad to see that because we want to compete. But overall, I felt like I played well in the first set and really used my game to push Camila.”

Looking Ahead

Swiatek, currently the top seed in the tournament and fresh off a victory at the Korea Open, boasts an impressive resume that includes four titles at the French Open and one at the U.S. Open out of her six Grand Slam singles victories. Looking ahead, she is set to face American Emma Navarro in her next match.

Other Matches

In other matches on Monday, fourth-seeded Mirra Andreeva secured a win against Jessica Bouzas Maneiro with a score of 6-4, 6-1, while Marta Kostyuk triumphed over Aliaksandra Sasnovich with a 6-4, 6-2 victory. Additionally, Navarro was leading Lois Boisson 6-2, 1-0 when Boisson had to retire from the match, paving the way for Navarro’s advancement.
