Connor Coyle’s Determination Amid Controversy
Irish professional boxer Connor “The Kid” Coyle is determined not to let a contested drug test overshadow his boxing career. Following the New York State Athletic Commission’s (NYSAC) decision to change his February 14 match against Vito Mielnicki Jr. at Madison Square Garden from a draw to a no contest, Coyle’s prior undefeated record of 21-0 has come under scrutiny.
Financial Penalties and Suspension
This ruling also involved significant financial penalties, including a $10,000 fine and deductions from his purse, further complicating his standing in the sport.
Initially, the commission proposed a full purse forfeiture along with a year-long suspension for Coyle, but after negotiations, this was reduced to a nine-month suspension.
Challenging the Testing Process
Coyle has publicly challenged the integrity of the testing process which yielded positive results from his first sample while the second sample, or “B sample”, has yet to be addressed.
“I believe in my training and my commitment to the sport. I will fight this decision and prove my innocence,” Coyle stated.
