Carolina Hurricanes Finalize Player Cuts Ahead of Preseason Match
In a move ahead of their next preseason match, the Carolina Hurricanes finalized another round of player cuts, targeting their defense. They have sent three defensemen—Dominik Badinka, Domenick Fensore, and Aleksi Heimosalmi—to the AHL’s Chicago Wolves. Additionally, center Skyler Brind’Amour and defenseman Ronan Seeley have also been assigned to the Wolves but must clear waivers prior to their official transfer.
Previously, on the eve of these adjustments, goaltenders Amir Miftakhov and Ruslan Khazheyev had already been dispatched to the Wolves. With just one preseason game left on the schedule, it’s anticipated that more player movements will follow these seven reassigned athletes.
Coaching Strategy and Player Assessments
Head Coach Rod Brind’Amour has been clear in his strategy to limit the on-ice time of key NHL players to mitigate the risk of injuries during the preseason. However, he expressed a desire to see many of his core team members participating in the final exhibition game.
“We’ll decide when we get a little bit closer, but yeah, I’d like to see more of our guys play that have only played one game,”
Brind’Amour stated.
While further cuts loom on the horizon, the coaching staff will also be assessing whether any players have demonstrated enough potential to extend their stay with the team. There are ongoing stories surrounding the team as they prepare for the upcoming season, including Logan Stankoven’s shift to center at training camp and Bradly Nadeau’s increased confidence heading into his second training camp, among others.
